Out of every 1 lakh women, around 300 of them are dying during child birth in Manipur every year due to lack of necessary medical care that should be taken care of during pregnancy, Health and Family Welfare Minister Pheiroijam Parijat has stated.
Inaugurating a day-long family welfare awareness programme organised under the aegis of Family Welfare Department of the State Government at Kakching Khunou today, Parijat said pregnant woemn should consult doctors every now and then on the medical requirements to be taken up during pre and post pregnancy period so as to avoid complication during child birth.
This is very much essential, he emphasised.
Stating that Family Welfare Department has been set up to ensure the health of the people including women and children, the Minister noted that such awareness programmes are being conducted to help and encourage the people in understanding the family welfare measures being implemented by the Government.
Informing that gathering that the State Government has set up a plan to ensure free medical needs to the women and children when they fall sick, the Minister said that the Government of India has been providing the necessary funding for this purpose.
He also highlighted some of the programmes and policies being implemented by the Government to empower women and promote education among them.
Participating in the day-long family welfare awareness programmes, resource persons spoke on the topics like role of women in family welfare programme, immunisation programme in PHC level and role of Accredited Social Health Activists (ASHAs).
