Works Minister K Ranjit has informed that construction of the 4 km long stretch road connecting Hiyanglam Hiranmei and Arong Khunou (Dabalongkhong) which has been pending due to obstruction from one UG group would be started soon along with deployment of security forces in the interest of the public.
Along with Chairman of Manipur Pollution Control Board E Dwijamani, the Works Minister today visited the sites of the protest demonstration at Hiyanglam Hiranmei, Arong Khunou (Dabalongkhong) and the group of Lai Pangamba where the people of the area have been staging relay Wakat Meepham since April 29 last in condemnation of UG interference in developmental works.
It may be recalled here that along with including in the work allocation of the PWD, the construction of the said road stretch began in last week of March this year with funding from Special Plan Assistance.
But the progress of the construction work has been stalled twice following undue interference from one UG group.
Besides, the 11day long relay Wakat Meepham, the people of the area had even taken out a torch rally at night yesterday to highlight the issue.
After taking first hand account of the situation and the opinion of the protestors, the Minister assured that the construction of the road would be resumed very soon with deployment of security forces.
He also appealed to all concerned not to cause any sort of difficulties in carrying out developmental works for the welfare of the people.
