Imphal, May 09 2009:
Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) and Film Forum Manipur (FFM) would be jointly organising an Interface Meet of the CBDF and cineasts of Manipur on May 11 at Hotel Imphal.
The programme would begin at 5 pm.
Addressing a press conference in this connection at Hotel Imphal today, regional officer of CBFC Mumbai Vinayak Azaad observed that among the Northeastern States, Manipur is leading in film production.
There are many Manipuri films more particularly the digital films which are pending for certification at the regional office of CBFC at Guwahati.
From the side of CBFC, efforts would be made to ensure that the provisions and rules related to certification of the films under the Cinematograph Act, 1952 is fully understand specially by the filmmakers and producers during the proposed Interface meet.
On top of this, efforts would also be made to understand the problems and requirements of the cineasts of the region apart from discussion on censoring of objectionable scenes like depiction of smoking cigarette, killing of wild life, etc on films, Vinayak explained.
While informing that a similar Interface meet was held at Guwahati last year, he said that the necessity for hosting an Interface meet at Imphal was felt after considering the number of films being produced in Manipur and the frequent trips being made by the producers to Guwahati for certification of their films.
Filmmaker and convenor of the proposed Interface Meet Ningthouja Lancha who was also present during the press conference noted that in view of the difficulties being faced in going to Guwahati for film certification and absence of members in the panellists for certification who understand Manipur language, discussion would be intiniated with the CBFC officials taking advantage of the proposed Interface meet to explore possibility of opening a regional office of the CBFC at Imphal as well.
