Imphal, November 03 2009:
Two underground activists allegedly engaging in extortion of money from the vehicles on the NH-39 apprehended by the troops of 57 Mountain Division, according to a statement of the, PRO PIB (Defense Wing) today.
One underground identified as Adakho was apprehended near Maram area on November 2 last along with a 9 mm pistol and ammunition by the troops.
The apprehension of Adhakho was after the nabbing of another activist on October 31 by the troops of 22 AR identified as Heney Tanshang near Mao.
From the possession of Heney, troops recovered Rs 20,200, he allegedly extorted from the truckers, the statement added.
They were apprehended in the continuous efforts of the 57 mountain Division to keep the NH-39 free from extortionists, the statement further observed adding that they have been handed over to the police along with the recovered items.
The continuous pressure exerted by the Army will ensure a reduction in extortion activities along the NH-39, the lifeline of Manipur, the statement went to state.
