Delhi Chief Minister Shiela Dikshit had a meeting with Dr Thokchom Meinya, Member of Parliament in Lok Sabha along with his colleague Takam Sanjoy from Arunachal Pradesh and Delhi based NE students' Organizations today at Delhi Secretariat here to chalk out a concrete plan of action to check the repeated crimes against the communities North East States living in Delhi.
The meeting was attended by Oscar Fernandes, CWC member of AICC, Kiran Walia, Delhi Minister of Woman and Child Development, GS Patnaik, Principal Secretary (Home), Delhi Government and high ranking police officers of Delhi Government.
In the meeting held under the initiative of the Delhi Chief Minister, the representatives from the NE Region apprised her of the threat and insecurity faced by people of NE States in Delhi.
The representatives asked Chief Minister Dixit to ensure safety, security and congenial atmosphere for the people of North Easterners.
Delhi Chief Minister assured the representatives to launch a 24X7 toll free Helpline number for the northeast students and women soon.
She issued instructions to Delhi Police to sensitize all 140 police stations in Delhi into the matter.
She also had given instructions to Delhi Police for frequent movement of PCR vans at the areas where the North East communities reside.
Chief Minister Sheila Dixit stated that the Delhi Government had already constructed a girls' hostel in the north campus of Delhi University.
"We are planning to construct a girls' hostel in the south campus of the University, for which a letter has been written to the Vice Chancellor of the University for allocation of the land", she added.
