MLA Dr Kh Ratankumar today expressed the need of conserving the ingenious Chumthang Kouna by popularizing its produces outside the state.
The MLA was speaking at the concluding function of a month long Chumthang Crafts Training Programme organized by the Presbyterian Christian, Naharup, Mayang Imphal Branch under the sponsorship of the United Scientific Rural Development Association.
Speaking on the occasion as chief guest, MLA Dr Kh Ratankumar said Chum-thang Kouna is available plenty in the Loktak Lake on the Mayang Imphal site.
So, the holding such training programme in the area reasonable.
The training programme will help in generating self employment to the youths of the area.
If such programme is extended further, it will help in improving not only the income earning way of the youths but also help in building an asset of the state.
He also said that if the craftsmen and handicraft works are developed well in the state, it will help a lot in improving the socio-economic condition of the state and prevalent of peace in the region.
Exploring that Chumthang Kouna can be used in making carry bags, he further said that if carry bags made of by this indigenous plant, it can replace polythene bags which is banned across the globe.
Handicraft officer, state Commerce and Industries, S Birendro, industries commissioner, JC Ramthanga, secretary of United Scientific Rural Development Association, Th Modhu also attended the concluding function among other.
They talked on the benefits that can be extracted from Chumthang Kouna.
