Imphal, November 03 2009:
As a fallout of the dispute between the Manipur Chemists and Druggists' Association (MCDA) and the RIMS authorities after the former decided to cease supply of medicines to pharmacies set-up inside the hospital complex, entry of medical representatives (MR) inside the premier medical institute of the region has been reportedly prohibited.
speaking to newspersons on the development, Medical Superintendent of RIMS Dr Y Mohen said decision for barring entry of the MRs had been effected since November 1 .
Asserting that objective of allowing the pharmacies inside the hospital was to enable the patients gain access to quality medicines at reasonable prices, he also informed that necessary measures have been taken to take legal actions against certain stockists for failing to honour prior commitment/agreement to supply medicines.
Joining the media briefing, proprietor of Ima Pharmacy (RIMS campus) Pukhrambam Shyamjai expressed confidence that inspite of some problems in ensuring availability of all essential medicines hectic efforts are being made so that the needy patients do not suffer from medicine shortages.
Meanwhile, 14 persons representing about 10 pharmaceutical outlets in the vicinity of RIMS Hospital were pulled up for unauthorised sale of medicines inside the hospital wards this morning.
As per remark of the RIMS Superintendent a complaint was resolved regarding loss of a mobile phone when a patient party was negotiating to purchase medicines from some salespersons at Surgery Ward yesterday.
Consequently a surprise check was launched at around 10.30 am today during which the 14 persons representing various pharmacies were rounded up.
All 14 have been handed over to Lamphel police, he added.
