MOMA airlifts organic turmeric to Mumbai

Imphal, January 25 2020:
Manipur Organic Mission Agency under the aegis of Horticulture and Soil Conservation Department airlifted five quintals of organic turmeric to Mumbai.The organic turmeric are grown in Tamenglong district.
Forest Minister Th Shyamkumar along with officials of the department led by Mission Director MOMA K Devadutta Sharma were present in a simple function, held at Imphal International Airport.
The Minister said that turmeric powder has been airlifted to Mumbai city after which it will be taken to other places.
He opined that the high demand of the organic turmeric and other produces' of the State will increase the income of the farmers, who are registered under MOMA.
K Devadutta Sharma said that Lakadong variety of turmeric is one of the five crops, which were grown organically since 2016 in the State, as it is identified as export-oriented crop.
He said that the organically certified Lakadong variety of turmeric has high level of curcumin and the buyers are ready to pay high premium.
He said that the Diocesan Social Service Society-Imphal, a service provider under the aegis of MOMA is working with the registered farmers of MOMA in Tamenglong, Noney and Ukhrul districts.
DSSS and MOMA collaborated to airlift five quintals of organic turmeric in powered form to the H&S Spices in Mumbai for the first phase.
