IGAR (South) celebrates Ningol Chakkouba

30 Assam Rifles of 9 Sector under HQ IGAR(South) celebrated the social cultural event Ningol Chakkouba at Mantripukhri Garrison on 19 Nov12.Womenfolk from various walks of life and communities of the state were invited.
The program was graced by Brigadier SS Mishra,VSM, Deputy IGAR(S) and on behalf of Lt Gen Ranbir Singh,AVSM,SM,Director General Assam Rifles and Maj Gen UK Gurung, YSM, IGAR(S), he extended a traditional welcome to the Ningols drawn from the Meitei, Muslim and all other communities.
The women folk were offered fruits and other eatables (Athenpot) in the same tradition in which Ningol Chakkouba as celebrated in Manipur.
Prominent lady dignitaries like Kumari Akoijam Mira Bai, Minister for Social Welfare, Padmashree Ksh Thouranishabi Devi,Former Manipur State Commission for Women,Prof Ksh Bimola Devi,Dept of Political Science, MU, Smt Loalijam Begum,Retd Principal GP Women's College,Miss Sonia Chanu,2012 Olympics particiopant,Smt June Rose Vaiphei,Member Manipur State commission for Women, Mrs Kim,PS to Home Minister, Smt Valley Rose Hungyo,Editor Aja Daily also graced the occasion.
Prominent ladies from various walks included Naogam Sana Devi, Director Social Welfare, Manipur, Smti S Sarju, President Mahila Kalyan Samiti, Smt RK Hemavai, Senior Artiste, Miss Anita Chanu,Arjuna Awardee 2007(Judo), L Sarita Devi,Arjuna Awardee 2009(Boxing), Kumari Sapam Arun, Reporter Sangai Express, State Journalist Awardee 2012.Miss Sarita Gazmir,Singer and nine young ningols from various Orphanages were also felicitated on the occasion.
Keeping with the Manipuri traditions with the women eating on plantain leaves and the Assam Rifles officers attired in Pheijoms serving them, was a spell binding moment for the IGAR (South) and all officers and ladies who attended the function, which is indeed a quintessence of Manipuri tradition.Deputy IGAR(S) appreciated the invaluable contribution of the Manipuri folk in all walks of life and added, it was an honor to host the Ningols, who are like sisters to them.
IGAR(S) appealed to the womenfolk to continue their inimitable role of maintaining peace, development and harmony in the society.
Emphasizing that the state is undergoing a transformation and in the current milieu, it is the women who can make a difference.
The women speakers expressed their gratitude towards the gesture of the Assam Rifles to strengthen the brother-sister bond and emphasized that the cordial relationship between the security forces and general public will definitely achieve new heights.
