Imphal, September 15 2012:
Communist Party of India (CPI), Manipur State Unit has demanded rollback in the price of diesel, implementation of Universal Public Distribution System and payment of compensation to the farmers who have been hit by deficient rain.
A decision to this effect was reportedly arrived at during a meeting of CPI, Manipur State Council held at Irabot Bhawan today.
Informing this to media persons, Dr Nara, Secretary of CPI, State Council, observed that at a time when the people of the country are suffering like hell due to hike in price of all essential commodities, the UPA Government has yet again increased the price of diesel by Rs 5/litre.Following the increase in the price of diesel, the transporters have declared that transportation charge of all goods and essential items would also be increased.
This clearly shows that the Congress-led UPA government is not in favour of common people.
So, CPI demands that the increase in diesel should be rollback at the earliest, Dr Nara said.
He pointed out that CPI is also very much against introducing Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) in retail trade and demanded that the proposal be withdrawn immediately.
Dr Nara informed that during the meeting today, the issues related to implementation of Universal Public Distribution System, which aims to provide 35 kg of rice to every household at the rate of Rs 2 per kg, was minutely discussed and unanimously resolved to pres the government for implementing the same.
With the system of Crop Insurance unclear in the state, the poor farmers have also been deprived of their insurance benefits.
So, the state government should come up with a definite decision to provide compensations to the farmers for the loss incurred due to insufficient rain, Dr Nara demanded.
