Imphal, September 15 2012:
To get a hold on the malaise afflicting the smooth functioning of Government Schools in Manipur and find a remedy to the problem, Deputy Commissioners of the respective districts would henceforth be pressed into action for inspection of all Government schools in the state.
It is said that the decision to rope in the service of Deputy Commissioners for inspecting the government schools has been arrived at on the basis of the suggestions given by public through the website of Education Department.
According to an official source in the state Education Department, a zone wise meeting was conducted on September 11 and 12 along with heads of the institutions and school Inspectors.
The meetings minutely discussed the guidelines of the new strategy to be chalked out for improvement of the education system in the state.
The source revealed that consequent to the meeting, the Deputy Commissioners concerned of all the districts have been directed to inspect the government schools under their respective jurisdiction and look into the issues related to teachers enjoying their salaries in schools where there are no student.
The DCs would also be checking the working condition of all the government schools and the available infrastructural set up.
Apart from this, the school authorities have been asked to submit the number of teachers employed in their respective schools and the number of students enrolled.
Most importantly, those students who are enrolled in schools but seldom present in classes would be expelled, the source informed.
The source pointed out that there have been instances where a number of government schools have closed down due to lack of students while others merging together to form a single school.
A huge amount of funds have also been sanctioned by the State Government to provide training to the teachers for the sole purpose of ensuring quality education to the students.
But in spite of all these efforts, most government schools are failing to live up to the expectation of the people day by day.
Nonetheless, Education Minister Moirangthem Okendro, in his sincere effort to bring about a complete change in the education scenario, has invited suggestions from the public and on the basis of these suggestions, the Education Department has initiated the new step of involving the Deputy Commissioners of the districts at the time of inspecting the government schools.
