Imphal, October 13 2014:
Demanding Requisite Qualification Scale/Higher Scale for government teachers by taking a firm decision in this regard in the State Cabinet at the earliest, All Manipur Elementary School Teachers' Association (AMESTA) staged a sit-in-protest at Keishampat Yumjao Lairembi Community Hall here today.
Speaking to newspersons on sidelines of the protest, Ch Santakumar, general secretary of AMESTA stated that many teachers who have enjoyed the Requisite Qualification Scale/Higher Scale and now retired are deprived of their pension due to the ill-treatment of the teachers by the government.
On the other hand, many teachers who have been serving in the profession for the last many years are yet to get Requisite Qualification Scale/Higher Scale, he lamented.
He said that a High Powered Committee headed by Additional Chief Secretary had submitted a report to the State Cabinet on the matter in the month of May of this year but nothing substantial step has been taken up to award the scale to the teachers which is unfortunate.
He then cautioned that the association will resort to series of intense agitation including fast-unto death if the State Cabinet fails to take a firm decision in this regard without any further delay.
Several placards which read such as 'Do not deprive pension of retired teachers'; 'Avail pension according to post of teachers'; 'Do not mistreat teachers; 'Regularize Higher Scale at the earliest' etc.
were used at the protest demonstration.
