8th Regional Saras Fair 2014 kick-starts

Imphal, October 13 2014:
Under the aegis of Rural Development & Panchayati Raj Department, a 12-day long 8th Regional Saras Fair 2014 being organized by Manipur State Rural Livelihoods Mission kicked-off today at DM College of Arts.
The inaugural function was graced by K Radhakumar, DC Imphal West and JC Ramthanga, Principal Secretary of Rural Development & Panchayati Raj as chief guest and president respectively while Dr A Nungshitombi, principal of DM College of Arts; Neeta Arambam, Joint Secretary of RD & PR and Kh Chaoba, BDO of Imphal East were present as guests of honor.
Speaking on the occasion, Radhakumar asserted that one should not sit idle waiting for a government job in today's world of globalization instead he should find ways to be self-employed and conceded that Self Help Group formed by male in the State is very minimal as 98 percent of the SHGs which generate self-employment are comprised by female members.
He exhorted the artisans participating in the fair to exhibit items with unique essence which could win hearts of buyers.
JC Ramthanga said that two places from the northeastern States were amongst the ten locations in the country selected for organizing Saras Fair for the year 2014-15 and conceded that the State was credited as one of the places as it had organized such festival successfully in the past.
He also said that the ongoing fair will provide a platform to artisans of the State to showcase their appealing items.
A total of 200 stalls run by artisans including many others coming from outside the State are taking part in the fair.
