Imphal, October 13 2014:
Security forces allegedly obstructed nearly 1000 people from attending a rally conducted by Manipur Pradesh Trinamool Congress Committee (MPTCC) yesterday for party nominee Dr Y Radheshyam in the by-poll bound Hiyanglam constituency of Thoubal district.
People were prevented from taking part in the campaign rally by security forces as they were clearing the road leading to the venue claiming that Chief Minister Okram Ibobi was coming to that side, MPTCC spokesperson P Premananda alleged while talking to the media at the party office.
"We condemn the ruling Congress for the unruly incident," he said.
"Over 6000 people were expected to attend the election rally, but nearly 1000 of them were turned away from the venue because of the deception and disruption," he claimed.
Despite the obstruction it was the biggest rally conducted by a party ahead of the Hiyanglam by-poll to be held on October 17, he declared.
Flanked by MPTCC president in-charge M Thoiba and vice-president MI Khan, Premananda slammed the INC and dubbing its candidate E Dwijamani as already tested candidate of Hiyanglam.
He said his party was confident of retaining the Hiyanglam seat by a huge margin.
The MPTCC spokesperson also criticised Manipur BJP president Th Chaoba for promising a special package for Hiyanglam and noted that the Centre never provides any type of district wise or constituency wise special package in the country.
The state BJP leaders are using film stars and singers to attract voters because they know the people do not like them, he alleged.
"Not a single person was turned out to witness yesterday's BJP's campaign road show donned by popular film stars and singers in the constituency," Premananda claimed.
