Media houses suspend boycott campaign

Media fraternity of the state has resolved to suspend the boycott of Manipur government related news over non-payment of advertisement bills by the state government.
The resolution to suspend the campaign was taken following a meeting of representatives of publishers, media organisations, All Manipur Working Journalists' Union (AMWJU), Editors' Guild Manipur (EGM) and Manipur Hill Journalists' Union (MHJU) with the newly inducted IPR minister Dr Sapam Ranjan.
A joint release by AMWJU president W Shamjai, EGM president Kh Khogendra and MHJU president Peter Adani said the decision was taken after a meeting with Dr Sapam Ranjan on Tuesday and discussed the issue of pending bills running into crores of rupees with various government departments.
The new IPR minister on his part informed the media delegation that departments under him, particularly NRHM, under Health department were already processing bills to be released in a very short time.
He also said that he was new to the department and assured the delegates that he will hold a meeting with his officers and take up every possible measure and appealed to the delegate to give him some time.
The media bodies chaired by AMWJU, EGM and MHJU presidents after deliberating on outcome of the meeting decided to suspend the media boycott of the Manipur government news and advertisement with immediate effect, added the release.
