Jiribam, June 30 2014:
Four student bodies based in Jiribam, namely AMSU District Committee; MSF Special Branch, DESAM Local Council and Kangleipak Students; Union (KSU) have jointly announced total blockade along Jiribam-Imphal stretch of the National Highway (NH-37) with effect from midnight of July 5 .
The blockade has been called in protest against the delay in appointment of required teachers for the educational institutions in Jiribam sub-division in spite of the agreement with state government for filling the vacant posts and even after the student bodies resorted to closure of all educational institutions in the sub-division since June 25 .
The student leaders of the 4 students' organisations announced the decision of calling total blockade along Jiri-Imphal national highway (NH 37) at the press meet held at the office of AMSU District Committee, Jiribam today.
Representatives of the Manipur Govt and the student bodies signed an agreement on 25 October 2013 to the effect of filling up the vacant posts of teachers, recalled a student leader, saying that they set June 10 as the deadline for the fulfilment of their demands.
However, as no action was taken up by the government, they resorted to indefinite closure of educational institutions and other offices in Jiribam from June 25 last, he added.
Informing that the National Highway 37 blockade would also cover the national projects particularly construction of railways lines, the student leader appealed to all vehicle counters and transporters to support the blockade, failing which they would bear all responsibilities of any untoward incidents.
