Literary Forum on Criticism held

A "Half Day Literary Forum on Criticism on Manipuri Literature" was held on Monday at the auditorium of Manipur College, Singjamei here.
The programme was organized by Manipuri Department of Manipur College, Singjamei under the sponsorship of Sahitya Akademi, New Delhi.
Prof H Behari, convenor, Manipuri Language Advisory Board, Sahitya Akademi, New Delhi attended the function as chief guest, Dr Kh Jayantakumar, Principal, Manipur College as president and Prof M Lokendro, president, All Manipur College Teachers' Association as guest of honour.
Giving the keynote address, retired Professor of Manipur University, N Khogendra explained that Manipuri literature lacks the culture of criticism.

The art of criticism is the very foundation of fine literary works, he said, and added that criticism should possess the real quality of constructive elements and strictly take interest in truism.
"Writers should never try to gratify themselves by using misleading thoughts," Prof Khogendra cautioned.
He said the introduction of work of literary criticism in Western countries dates back to 1950, but this work was introduced in Manipur very recently.
He also emphasized on constructive criticism for promotion literature.
In his speech, Prof Behari said that the literary forum was organized in the hope of giving its benefits to both students and teachers of literature and appealed to all teachers to take up extension lecture programmes on literature.
At the academic session, four resource persons read out papers on different topics.
Dr Sharatchandra Longjamba spoke on the topic "Survey of Criticism in Manipuri Literature," Dr S Robindro on "Khamba-Thoibi Sheireng as an Epic", Dr S Lanchenba Meitei on "Criticism of Manipuri Poetry in accordance with the Rules enshrined in Indian Poetics" and Prof Th Ratankumar on "Criticism of Manipuri Poetry according to the Rules of Western Poetics" .
The academic session was moderated by Prof E Dinamani Singh.
