Study centre of Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNUO) will also be opened in the state with special package for the economically and educationally backward classes, official of the Manipur State Minorities Commission said today.
A proposal for establishment of the study centre requested by the Vice-Chancellor of the IGNOU has been accepted by the Chairperson of the Manipur State Minorities Commission, the official added.
The commission has also selected to open the centre at Lilong Haoreibi College in Thoubal district dominated by Muslims as identified by the Sashar Committee after a brief survey was conducted.
The centre is to be established with special package for minority Muslim girls at Lilong Haoreibi College, the official said adding that a memorandum of understanding (MOU) between the principal of the college and the IGNOU Regional Director will be signed after having an awareness programme.
The commission is planning to conduct the awareness programme on September 28 coming at the premises of the Haoreibi College.
All information including various prospects of the centre will be highlighted by eminent resource persons on the occasion.
As the centre is specially meant for the educationally backward Muslim Girls, this commission has to draw special attention of the general public and appeals all the academicians belonging to minorities Muslim community of the state to attend the awareness programme and share knowledge with the commission.
