Traffic on the BT road was disturbed this evening when police was alarmed by a phone caller about placing a bomb somewhere on the stretch of the road even as a hand grenade was discovered near a transformer at Trongloabi Makha Leikai under Moirang police station of Bishnupur district.
City police today blocked traffic on the BT road this evening at about 5 pm when an unknown non-local caller informed over telephone about placing a bomb at a place on the stretch of the road.
Police blocked the road as preventive measure and conducted search for the bomb.
But later, allow resumption of traffic after police could not find any explosive material or bomb at any place.
City police was contacted by a non-local asking if the phone is SP office informing that a bomb is lying there alarming that it will be exploded soon, according to the police.
Responding to the telephone, personnel of the City Police Station immediately swung into action and conducted search for the bomb by preventing traffic movement.
With no threat detected, police allowed resumption of the road.
Meanwhile, a hand grenade was discovered from near a power transformer at Tronglaobi Awang Leikai under Moirang police station this morning at about 7 am.
The bomb was first detected by a woman of the locality but she did not know it was a bomb, police report here said.
Children also played with bomb till elders of the locality informed that it was bomb.
Later the hand grenade was destroyed by troops of the 16 Maratha Light Infantry at about 10 am, the police report added.
