Imphal, January 03 2010:
A huge fund amounting to Rs 2,50,00,000 crore meant for construction of houses for the homeless people in Tousem sub-division under the Indira Awaj Yojana (IAY) for the year 2008-09 has been lapsed due to negligence on part of the Project Officer and AO of the said scheme, alleged a statement of the Tousem Village Authority today.
Because of wrong maintenance of accounts in the office of the Project Officer and AO of the implementing agency, DRDA Tamenglong and subsequent late submission of claim proposals of second instalment of the central share of the Union government, a sum of Rs 14,00,000 has been missing, the statement signed jointly by chairman, Ramtingching, general secretary Haisuingam of Tousem Village Authority alleged.
This missing amount is above Rs 1,00,00,000 sanctioned as additional fund which was supposed to have been received after obtaining second instalment of Central share amounting to Rs 2,50,00,000 which was lapsed under IAY scheme in the sub-division which was meant for construction of 659 houses during 2008-09 .
Moreover, the scheme has been manipulated many times during selection of the beneficiaries by the officials concerned.
The officers selected only their close relatives, friends including APL families resulting in selecting those not deserving the objective of the scheme meant for the poor families.
The DC Tamenglong has also not given serious attention to the exaggeration made by the scrupulous officers, the statement alleged and drew the attention of the government to look into the matter and rectify it at the earliest.
Tamenglong is one of the most backward districts of the state.
It is because of long negligence and stepmotherly treatment meted out to the people of the district by the successive governments.
But, the SPF government coming to power in Manipur under the leadership of Chief Minister, O Ibobi has become a ray of hope and turning point for bringing and implementing many development infrastructure in the district, may it be road, electricity, education, health and sanitation, etc.
"It is our hope and aspiration that the SPF government will leave no stone unturned to bring equal development to the people of Tamenglong with the rest of the world in every sphere of development without any prejudice," the statement said.
