GOC 57 Mountain Division Maj Gen DS Hooda has applauded the talent and determination of Manipuri youngsters to excel in any field.
Speaking as the chief guest at the reception function of young climber Cadet Khangjrakpam Arjun s/o Dr Kh Ibohanbi of Khoijuman, the GOC described Manipur as a land of scenic beauty and the people blessed with abundant talent and robust strength.
Conveying strong desire to promote and inculcate interest in adventure sports among the younger generation even in remote areas, DS Hooda also assured all possible assistance in organising expedition to such places as Siachen glaciers.
He also donated Rs 10,000 to programme host Manipur Mountaineering and Trekking Association.
Cadet Arjun, who is from Khoijuman in Bishnupur district, at 14 years of age was the youngest member of the Indian team that recently scaled Mt Banderpunch.
An adventure enthusiast from a tender age, Arjun had his initial schooling at loyala School, Bishnupur before studying at Sainik School, Imphal from Class VI to VII.
Currently, Arjun is a Cadet at Rashtriya India Military College, Dehradun.
Bio-data published by the MMTA on the occasion of the felicitation programme also highlighted Arjun's sporting talent and participation in various adventure sports events.
Today's function was presided by MMTA president Dr L Surjit.
