Severe cool weather sweep across Manipur, people experiencing biting chill weather, snowfall at various places which affects life both in hills and valley areas.
The mercury falls to 1�C in the last few days making it frosty, according to weather reports of Meteorology observers.
Maximum temperature raised upto 24�C on the average.
Weather forecast reports indicated the same mercury level in the next coming few days.
Snowfalls were experienced in the hill districts of Chandel, Ukhrul and Senapati districts.
Residents of Chandel district headquarters witnessed white snows this morning which according a villagers first ever in his life.
Young villagers who never witnessed snowfall in their life time in the place said they could see white snow covering the open grasslands in their village this morning.
It's a wonderful thing, they amused.
Though snowfall not witnessed, residents of Senapati district also experiencing coldest ever.
"Though it was cold enough that we could not wake up early in the morning as usual," said a resident of the district headquarter when contacted.
This season is seems to be the coldest, he added.
The entire valley area is also experiencing cold temperature with lowest temperature ranges from sub-zero to 4�C in the morning and a maximum raise of upto 24�C everyday.
In Manipur, snowfall commonly occurred in some high mountains like the Koubru, Zduko valley of Senapati district.
The state experience snowfall only in severe cold month of January which do not occurred every year in the last around four decades, a sign of global warming.
The climate of Manipur is largely influenced by the topography of this hilly region which defines the geography of Manipur.
The state situated at an elevation of 790 meters above the sea level.
In winter the mercury often falls to sub zero temperature making it frosty in the wintertime.
The coldest month in Manipur is January while maximum temperature recorded in the summer months of Manipur is 32 degree Celsius.
