S Molnom fit case for cleanest village tag

S Molnom village in Kangpokpi district could well be declared as the cleanliest village in Manipur as this tiny hamlet located around 33km from Imphal fulfils all the criteria for such a declaration/recognition.
The village located around 11km from Kangpokpi district headquarters had around 50 households with a total population of 260 people mainly of the Vaiphei tribe.
Of the total population in the village, 138 are males and the rest 122 are females while literacy rate for male and female is 68.12 per cent and 59.02 per cent respectively thus averaging 63.85 percent.
Alen Vaiphei, an inhabitant of the village who has been enthusiastically taking part in all activities of the village and making all out efforts to keep the village neat and clean all the time, said that he has seen some videos on social media commending S Molnom as the cleanliest village in Manipur.
He said that the Senapati district's deputy commissioner had earlier honoured S Molnom village during Republic Day function and accorded recognition as the cleanliest village in the district but there has been no such recognition from the state government till date.
The village is now flooded with tourists from different parts of the state after videos about the village uploaded on social media went viral, he added.
When asked as to how the villagers managed to keep the village spic-and-span all the time, Alen Vaiphei said that youth of S Molnom village conduct social service every Saturday morning and cleanse surroundings of their respective houses and this has become a habit for them.
He informed that the village has one small recreation park where the villagers and tourists could rest for a while peacefully.
While confiding that an other park with huts will be developed soon, he said majority of S Molnom villagers want to live closely with nature/environment and this will help them to develop positive thinking and ultimately bringing a good society.
Alen also opined that Manipur could be a global role model of cleanliness if every village and locality cultivate the habit of cleanliness like S Molnom villagers.
