Pebam Chitaranjan remembered

The crusader of human rights who stood against the Armed Forces Special Power Act 1952 Pebam Chitaranjan was fondly remembered today.
The Manipur Students' Federation (MSF) opbserved the day as Students' Martyrs Day at Sega Road Takhelambam Leikai Club.
People offered floral tribute to the statue of late Chitaranjan.
A peace procession was also carried out by the students upto THAU ground Thangmeibenad where the main function was held.
Social Worker Thounaoujam Iboyaima, MSF President L Ibomcha, DESAM President L C Santosh, AMSU President Th Suresh, KSA President Y Pradeepkumar, Apunba Lup Co-ordinator Phulendro Konsam and L Landoni Leima graced the function as Presidum members.
Speaking on the occasion, Social Worker Iboyaima said that the Manipuri society is an under-privileged society which will never able to live freely.
Manipur was forcibly merged with the Indian Union in 1949 besides imposing various black laws and abusing human rights.
Taking advantage of AFSPA of human rights were violated in many occasions and many women were raped.
In protest against the human rights violations in the state, Pebam Chitaranjan sacrificed his life for the sake of the people, Iboyaima asserted.
L C Santosh terming late Pedam Chitaranjan as a real son of Manipur said that students today should follow the sprit of Chitaranjan.
The present state of economy, administration and society of the state is in worst .
We all should work to nurture a new generation of youth dedicated for their motherland Santosh added.
L Ibomcha said that sacrificing for the motherland is the greatest sacrifice, for which Pedam Chitaranjan is the living example.
