Police: No breakthrough in child kidnap bid case

Mystery, continued to shroud the case of attempted kidnapping of a school-going child, who was reportedly chloroformed and put in a gunny sack by unknown youth at Mayotang Zone II in Ukhrul town on June 10 .
"We have taken up the case for investigation.
For the last four days, we are investigating the matter but so far, we haven't found any convincing evidences or eyewitnesses in the case", said officer in-charge, Ukhrul police station, W Marchang.
He said that the police are groping in the dark over the matter as no definite clues have been found in the course of the ongoing investigation so far.
"We are continuing the investigations and looking at different angles to find concrete evidences and eyewitnesses to establish the matter", Marchang Said.
In connection with the case, an FIR was registered at the district police station over attempting to commit offences, with common intention and kidnapping and abduction of child based on a complaint lodged at the police station by chairman of Mayotang P Somi on June 11, a day after the incident.
In the report, the informant stated that "on June 10 around 4:30 pm, a minor boy of Pharung village and presently residing at Mayotang, Ukhrul was kidnapped from near his home by some unknown male youth numbering about 4/5 while he (victim) was on his way to attend a coaching class a few metres away from his home" .
He mentioned that the unknown youth called the victim to come to which he ignorantly complied.
"The youth then gaged his mouth using chemicals, possibly chloroform, that left him unconscious.
When he regained sense after about one and half hours, he found himself inside a sack.
He called out for his elder brother.
Then his elder sister and others came and removed him from sack and took him home", the report said.
Meanwhile, on Tuesday, a peaceful protest rally was held to denounce the attempted kidnapping of the school-going kid in Ukhrul town.
The rally demanded authorities concerned to book the culprits involved in the case at the earliest and also sought attention of the state government to ensure safety of the student community in the district.
