Workshop cum demonstration on Meitei Folk Music & Folk Music begins

A three-month long workshop cum demonstration on Meitei Folk Music & Folk Dance being organized by Agasti Cultural Academy (ACA), Thoubal under the sponsorship of Ministry of Culture, Government of India kick-started today at Working Children's Ashram, Pallel in Thoubal district.
The inaugural function was graced by Indira Oinam, national & international awardee who is also the founder of ACA; A Khelendro, Officer-in-Charge of Moreh Police Station and KB Ingaremba of Panthoibi Culture Research Centre as presidium members.
As part of the programme, several renowned artistes of the State namely Yaima and W Lukhoi who are the pandits of Govindajee Temple Board; Th Iboton, amaiba of Sanamahi Temple Board; Lourembam Bedapati, singer of Khunung Esei; Kh Sundari, singer of Khongjom Parba and Moirang Parba; L Dhamendro, teacher of Thang-Ta and Th Menjor, teacher of Pena were presented with certificate, shawl along with medal in recognition of their contributions towards preservation of their arts.

Speaking on the occasion, Indira Oinam asserted that there are many lessons on culture which the Meitei community could learn from people of hills while conceding that cultural research centers are set up for hills people to preserve their cultures.
Saying that it is high time for the present generation to initiate steps to preserve art and culture by seeking knowledge from seniors who are well acquainted with the subject matter and publishing books on it, she called upon the people to put in joint efforts to set up cultural center for Meitei community to preserve its culture.
To mark the occasion, performances of Khunung Esei; Khongjom Parba; Moirang Parba and Pena were showcased.
