Cabinet okays IMC polls on May 25

The State Cabinet has approved May 25 as the date for holding elections of Imphal Municipal Council, which is currently under suspension.
The Cabinet meeting presided by the Chief Minister this afternoon also set May 11 for publication of preliminary electoral rolls, May 15 as the deadline for claims and objections, if any, of the electoral rolls.
Moreover, it decided on the publication of election notice for the said polls on May 4 while filing of nomination paper is supposed to be completed on May 9, said an informed source adding that scrutiny would be held on May 10 and that candidates would be allowed to withdraw candidacy on May 12 .
The voting hours for the May 25 franchise will be from 8 am to 4 pm while repolling, if the need arises, will be on May 27 said the source further.
Setting May 29 as the day for counting votes and completion of the entire polling process on June 2, the Cabinet also finalised the jurisdictions of the 21 newly established police stations.
Accordingly, Sugnu police station would be responsible for areas within Korsantabi village upto Tonsen Lamkhai whereas Sunurok, Tellou, Chana, Laikot Pahijol, Uranpat and Molnom Kuki villages would be under the jurisdiction of Yaingangpokpi police station.
Moreover, Nongren, Nongdam, Ningthemcha Khul and Nongpok Heirok would be responsibility of Lamlai police station while Laikotching Tangkhul village has been included under the ambit of Maphou Dam police station.
The source also informed of the Cabinet decision for creation of a post of Sub Divisional Police Officer for Mayang Imphal police station.
