Imphal, April 06 2011:
Women bodies have drawn the attention of the CM for his intervention in releasing Moirangthem Landhoni, wife of an UNLF leader, currently detained by NIA after she was arrested with her husband from Guwahati in August last year.
She was among 19 UNLF members charge-sheeted by NIA for plotting a "systematic war against India" and trying to bring Maoists and three other outfits of Manipur under one umbrella to "destabilize" the country.
She has denied the charges levelled against her and has been demanding her release.
She has been on a fast unto death in the Guwahati jail since March 8 .
Women bodies in Manipur say that Landhoni, who is a mother of two, had already been granted bail by a court in Imphal.
The women bodies in a memorandum sumbmitted to the CM accused the NIA of "falsely implicating" Landhoni in its case, NIA case no.01/2010 under section 120(B), 121(A) 122 IPC & section 16, 17, 18 and 20 of UA (P) Act, 1967 as amended in Act 35 of 2008.The memorandum stated that she is not even a member of the UNLF and is also not connected with any activities of the said organisation.
She is a teacher in a school with two children to look after.
The two children separated from their parents for over seven months, are now suffering from mental depression which may even cause permanent disorientation.
The women bodies say she has been deliberately implicated in the case on the basis of a statement of one Amusana Devi who was also intimidated to do so.
Under the circumstances the release of Landhoni can be secured only by intervention of the state government.
The memorandum was signed by Ph Sakhi, president of All Manipur Kanba Ima Lup (AMKIL), Th Ramani, general secretary of All Manipur Women Social Reformation and Development Samaj (Nupi Samaj), N Sorojini, president of Universal Mothers' Organisation (UMO) and S Momon, president of All Manipur Tammi-Chingmi Apunba Nupi Lup (Tammi Chingmi) .
