Imphal, April 06 2011:
MLA O Joy Singh has expressed concern over the moral degradation among the youth in Manipuri society at the occasion of 16th Naharol-shingee Numit ( Youths' Day) observance at MDU Hall here today.
MLA O Joy attended the observance function held under the aegis of MPP Youth Front as chief guest.
MPP has been observing April 6 every year as Naharolshingee Numit in remembrance of the supreme sacrifice made by Senggoisana and his father Yaiskullakpa after killing three British officers in the battle of Thoubal Athokpam of the Anglo-Manipuri war, 1891 .
Speaking as chief guest of the observance, O Joy said that while a youngman like Senggoisana sacrificed his life to safeguard the sovereignty of Manipur, there is moral degeneration among the youths in Manipuri society today.
In the name of protecting the State and its people, some armed youths are today looting the people, hurling bombs and opening fire at private residences.
Their valour and courage are being wasted in shedding the blood of their own kinsmen, Joy lamented.
Stating that the main responsibility of a political party in any State or Nation is to bring about political revolution for the welfare of the people, Joy asserted that a right political decision and direction is required for development to take place in a society.
MPP has been working towards this, he said, adding that remembering the past Manipuri heroes is respecting them O Joy also expressed desire on the part of the State Government to develop properly the site where Senggoisana breathed his last and produced films on Seven Years' Devastation, Khongjom War and Khamba-Thoibi.
MPP advisor Dr L Chandramani narrated the story of Senggoisana to the gathering.
MPP president Dr Nimaichand Luwang and other party leaders were also present at the occasion.
Prior to the main observance function, party president led the people in offering Tarpon in memory of Senggoisana at Arong river.
As part of the observance, party president Dr Nimaichand Luwang and MLA O Joy also led a public rally from Kakwa community hall to MDU hall, where the main observance function was held.
