Imphal, July 25 2021:
Though some paddy fields in Kumbi assembly constituency have started sowing seeds with the help of irrigation water from the Loktak Lift Irrigation, vast tracts of the fields in the assembly constituency could not properly sow seeds due to lack of water and scanty rainfall.
Former vice-chairman of Kumbi Municipal Council Wahengbam Bobychand, who owns paddy fields in the prime paddy land of Kumbi named Loutombi, said that suffering of the farmers of Loutombi due to lack of rainfall this year could be eased at least to some extent if the department concerned takes up steps to provide water through LLI Kumbi Sangolpat.
He also urged the chief minister and officials of the department concerned to provide diesel or electric water pumps for supplying water through LLI.
Kumbi Loumi Sinmi Apunba Lup president Salam Jayenta said that paddy fields covered under LLI at Kumbi Sangolpat Mem have started sowing paddy seeds but neighbouring fields like Loutombi and Kumbi Hourou Loukon still remain dry.
However, these paddy fields could sow seeds properly if water from LLI Kumbi Sangol-pat Mem are utilised by pumping with the help of private water pumps and department concerned provide diesel for the same, he said and drew attention of the department concerned for doing the needful in this regard.
