Imphal, July 25 2021:
Water Resource Development Committee (WRDC), Moirang has informed that the government has already sanctioned a fund of Rs 8 crore for renovating Moirang Water Supply scheme and works will begin once the pandemic situation improves.
In a statement, the committee reacted against statement made by some CSOs on Accelerated Urban Water Supply Scheme Moirang in the media, and said that a non-governmental organisation called WAMADA looked after the water supply scheme from 2005 to 2018.It is true that no filter media was used since the water supply scheme was commissioned in 2005 and there are reasons for not using the filter media.
The 4-km long pipeline from the water source to the reservoir is not fit and water pressure is low due to which the water can hardly reach the settling tank.
Besides, the reservoir tanks are not fit and could not store water to the full capacity.
At the same time, water was supplied to four to five villages outside Moirang such as Tronglaobi and two hill villages, and it resulted in inability to maintain adequate stock of water in the reservoir.
However, the statement of Moirang Apunba Meira Paibi Lup secretary, who said that the pipeline has full of cracks is wrong.
Though the water supply scheme could not function to its full capacity, it has been providing water supply to some areas regularly.
Since the committee took hold of the facility, they have been able to reach Moirang Khoiru Leikai, which had been left out for the last seven decades.
Interestingly, the CSOs and Meira Paibi organisation did not raise a single voice on the faulty water supply scheme, which was installed at a cost of around Rs 18 crore during the previous government, the statement said, while expressing suspicion of political influence behind their statements.
The committee then appealed to the CSO and Meira Paibi organisation to wait till the Covid-19 situation improves for the renovation work to begin.
