At a time when the Taxation Department is taking up numerous steps to ensure proper implementation of Goods and Services Tax in the State, seven trucks loaded with sand which were imported from Dimapur without paying necessary taxes, were seized by the Department's Enforcement team yesterday.
According to information received by The Sangai Express from an official source, the Department has been carrying out numerous steps to ensure that all the dealers in the State are registered with GST and have filed necessary return policies.
To ensure successful implementation of GST in Manipur, the enforcement team of the Taxation Department has been monitoring the import of goods/products into the State by businessmen without paying the necessary taxes.
The source pointed out that the enforcement team inspected the trucks carrying goods into the State along National Highway 2 (Imphal-Dimapur), near Sekmai yesterday and was able to detain seven trucks loaded with sand, which were brought in from Dimapur without paying necessary taxes.
The trucks were made to pay the necessary penalties, apart from paying the necessary taxes, and then were let off, the source added.
The source informed that the enforcement team will detain all the trucks which bring in goods/products without the necessary challans for payment of taxes.
Several units of the enforcement team have also been deployed at important points along Imphal-Dimapur road, Imphal-Jiribam road, Imphal-Moreh road, Churachandpur-Aizawl road etc to inspect the goods laden trucks coming into the State.
On the other hand, the Taxation Department has started raiding business establishments which failed to file necessary GST return policy even though they have registered for GST, the source added.
