Imphal, February 10 2013 :
The proscribed Kanglei Yawol Kanna Lup (KYKL) has warned schools in Manipur, especially, Catholic schools and other CBSE affiliated schools with ban for lifetime if any of them is found influencing their students to opt Alternative English instead of their Mother Language in MIL subjects.
Announcing this in a statement, A Yaiphaba, Secretary of Publicity and Research, KYKL asserted that some Catholic Schools, CBSE affiliated schools and others are believed to be influencing their students to opt Alternative English instead of their Mother Language especially in class IX.
It was believed that teachers of these schools are telling the students that they will get less mark in examinations if they opt for their Mother Language.
It further stated that the time has gone when teachers or examiners give little marks for MIL subjects in Manipuri or other mother languages.
If any such things still happen, it urges the examiners to give the same marking system in MIL as in other subjects.
Mother language is the primary language of a human being which brings out the inner thoughts of a person which in turn is the prime key for innovation and development.
Influencing students to opt out of their mother language against their will is like standing against the society or the community, the statement added.
While advising not to give any influence to students while choosing MIL subjects, the statement further added that KYKL will ban any schools which are found influencing students on this matter.
It also added that they would penalize teachers who are found guilty of influencing students to opt out of their mother language.
