Imphal, February 10 2013 :
In order to bridge the gap between the rich and the poor and also to give awareness to the poor people of their share in the government grants, the Unified People's Struggle Committee (UPSC) has begun its one-week long campaign in the four valley districts of Manipur.
UPSC was floated by various civil organisations.
According to the leaders of UPSC, the rich and the influential people are enjoying the government schemes meant for the poor people.
"After obtaining BPL and AAY cards from the authority, the rich and the people in power are receiving these schemes meant for the poor people.
Because of this reason, we are making the awareness campaign today," said the UPSC leaders.
They then said AAY has been implemented in the year 2000 but "after 12 years or so the scheme has not been going to the targets," the UPSC added.
According to the Committee, under AAY scheme, every month 35 kilograms of rice should be received by the family of a card holder at Rs 3.50 per kg and also that the BPL card holders should be receiving 35 kg of rice at Rs 6.25 per kg in a month by the card holder's family.
