Oken announces sops for Chandel college

While declaring that a viable transfer policy would be adopted to mitigate inconveniences of teachers, Education Minister M Okendro assured that teaching staff inadequacy being faced by United College, Chandel would be addressed at the earliest.
The Minister made the announcements while speaking as the chief guest at the inauguration function of the United College multi-purpose hall at its Lambung premises on June 23 .
Maintaining that United College and South East Manipur College, Chandel district are among six colleges that had been receiving grant-in aid from the Government, he asserted that there would be no discrimination on hill-valley basis with regard to the education sector.
Pointing out that infrastructure development of educational institutions would be his as well as the State Government's top priority, Okendro also conveyed that a 'command and control wing' would be formed to ensure quality is maintained in construction works in the education sector.
While opinion that Manipur is one of the States making rapid strides in the education sector, he expressed confidence that the State would achieve more progress in case existing disparity in posting and placement of teachers could be effectively removed at the earliest.
Seeking cooperation of all section of the society in the development of education in the State, the Minister confided that services of intellectuals, educationists and scholars would be roped in to reform the education sector towards betterment.
Reiterating that all possible measures would be initiated to promote quality education, he also observed that existence of a Government would be considered null and void if students cannot be guaranteed educational institutions of their choice or sufficient classrooms cannot be provided.
The Education Minister also laid the foundation stone for a two-storey united College science laboratory building, which will be implemented by the Engineering Cell of Education Department at an estimated cost of Rs 4.7 crore under North Eastern Council funding.
The dual event was also attended by Chandel AC MLA Victor Nunglun as the functional president while former MP/MLA BD behring, Chandel Deputy Commissioner Th Chittaranjan, Karong MLA Alexander Pou and top officials of Education Department also graced the occasion.
Capitalising on the Minister's presence, United College students and teachers, and representatives of Maha union Higher Secondary School handed over memorandums containing various demands/proposals.
besides attending a reception programme hosted by South East Manipur College at its Komlathabi campus, M Okendro, who is also the Consumer Affairs, food and Public distribution Minister assessed progress of work of the FCS godown construction at Liwa Sarei.
Not satisfied with the construction activities/progress, the Minister informed newspersons that pending bills to the work agency/contractor would be cleared and a new contractor would be assigned to continue the remaining work.
He also conveyed that a suitable site would be located for setting up an FCI godown in the district.
Later, the Minister inspected the ZEO office building and spotting erratic storage of SSA textbooks advised officials concerned to maintain office decorum.
upon flipping the office attendance register it came to light that some staff members were not present subsequently leading to the Minister directing the officials to issue explanation call to the absent staff members.
At Maha union Government Higher Secondary School, the Minister applauded the school authorities on seeing healthy enrolment of students.
Okendro also assured repairing of some classrooms of the School besides conveying that six months pending salary to RMSA teachers would be released at the earliest.
