Imphal, June 24 2012:
The Central Government has given the green signal for sanctioning Rs 5 crores each in every district of the state for construction of one bus terminus.
Scouting of feasible sites for construction of these proposed bus terminuses is expected to be carried out soon.
According to highly reliable source, the Detail Project Report (DPR) for construction of bus terminuses has been forwarded to Central government last year considering the problems faced by public from parking of passenger vehicles along the road side in the absence of proper bus terminuses in the state.
The approval for setting up one bus terminus in every district of the state was given approval by the Central government in the beginning of this year, the source added.
The source further revealed that officials of State Transport Department have already met the officials of Union Ministry of Transport in this regard and the Central government has approved sanctioning of Rs 50 crores for the first phase.
However, before sanctioning of the amount, the state government has to identify probable sites for construction of the bus terminuses and send a report to the Central government accordingly.
The source informed that at least 5 acres of land would be required for construction of a bus terminus in every district.
For the identification of the construction sites, a committee is to be formed with top officials of government departments and DCs of all districts.
The bus terminus would also have rest rooms for travelers and workshops constructed inside
its campus.
