Kakching, July 21 2021:
MP Candidature Demand Committee Manipur, Kakching has lauded Rajya Sabha MP Maharaja Leishemba Sanajaoba for raising the demand for inclusion of eight assembly segments, which are presently under Outer Manipur Parliamentary constituency, into Inner Parliamentary constituency in the monsoon session of the parliament.
In a release, Committee convener P Somorendro said that nonST people residing in the eight assembly segments have long been deprived of their right to contest in Parliamentary election as candidates though they are given the right to vote.
The Committee has been staging protest and submitting memorandum demanding to address this issue for the last many years.
Despite numerous postponements, the Committee also sent letters to the Delimitation Commission, he pointed out, while recalling that Election Commission of India in a letter assured it of solving the issue during discussion for Manipur.
Even though three lakhs non-ST people residing in the eight assembly segments live like spare-parts for the last 70 years, the Committee will continue to raise the demand even if it could not be achieved in a day or two.
Somorendro stated that the committee submitted necessary documents to MP Sanajaoba in February.
The MP too assured of raising the demand in the Parliament, he added.
Lauding the MP for airing plight of people of the said assembly segments as special mention in the parliament session on Tuesday, Somorendro expressed hope that the MP will try his level best to solve the issue at the earliest.
The Committee is prepared to take up all necessary steps for realisation of the long cherished demand, he added.
