Imphal, July 21 2021:
While informing that farmers in Lamlai AC have put their hands on head, literally, as they could not till the paddy fields in time due to scanty rainfall and the water level of river in the constituency remaining shallow, CPI member Bilam has drawn attention of the government for doing the needful at the earliest.
During a meeting of CPI Lamlai AC, Bilam drew attention of the government particularly the chief minister to take note of the dry paddy fields in Lamlai AC and acknowledge plights of the farmers.
Paddy cultivation in Lamlai AC during the time of late MLA Ph Parijat had no problem as the late CPI leader developed several irrigation canals but paddy fields in the AC could not be prepared properly nowadays and crop production is expected to be less this year as around 70 percent of paddy fields remain dry, he said and cited reason behind this as election of wrong representative from the AC.
He alleged that the incumbent representative of the AC never heard voice of the farmers and this indeed is very unfortunate for the people of the constituency.
He also said that local MLA should earmark some amount from the local area development fund for providing water to paddy fields apart from ensuring to provide fertilizer at cheaper rates to farmers.
