BC Das lands in Imphal to oversee situation within State Congress

Imphal, July 21 2021:
AICC's Manipur-in-charge, Bhakta Charan Das landed here today on a three day sojourn to assess the situation within the Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee following the resignation of Govindas Konthoujam as the State unit's president.
Upon reaching Imphal, Das stated that his purpose of visit is to help Congress stake claim to form a Government as disqualification of 11 BJP MLAs looms large.
To queries raised by media persons at Bir Tikendrajit International Airport, Bhakta Charan Das stated that he is to help reorganize the Congress.
On the MPCC chief's resignation, the State in-charge stated that he will deliberate on the issues with party MLAs and leaders.
Congress is a very disciplined party and resignation of the MLA from such an important post is a serious matter, he said.
Das went on to say that there is no possibility in the change of Congress Legislature Party leadership despite the development and there has been no demand on the part of the MLAs regarding the issue.

During his stay, he will minutely assess the situation unfolding within the party and do the needful to bolster the party's strength.
He also said that there is a high chance of 11 BJP MLAs getting disqualified as the Supreme Court is likely to announce its judgement on 'Parliamentary Secretary Case' on July 26.As such what will turn out within the ruling BJP needs to be carefully studied after the judgement, he said.
If the situation is felicitous, the Congress will make necessary arrangment to stake claim to form a Government, he said.
The National leader later called on former Chief Minister, O Ibobi; MLA K Meghachandra, Th Lokeshore and other party leaders at Hotel Classic Grande.
Following the meeting, MLA K Meghachandra commented that resignation of MLA K Govindas from the post of MPCC's president was his personal choice and clarified that there is no dissension among Congress Legistature Party.
Later, the Congress Legistature Party also convened a meeting at Congress Bhavan today to discuss on filling up of the vacant post and other interim measures.
In an interesting turn of event it is reported that 12 out of the 17 CLP members attended the meeting.
According to information available to The Sangai Express, 2 members didn't attend the meeting while Govindas Konthoujam, Kh Joykisan and Yamthong Haokip are currently in Kolkata reportedly.
The Sangai Express also learnt that 6 names have been recommended for the post of Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee president.
