Board text book tamasha continues as MSF cracks down on shady dealings

Manipuri Students' Federation (MSF) has confiscated a large number of prescribed school text books which were found being sold in the book shops without the hologram of Board of Secondary Education, Manipur as well as those which are supposed to be made available free of cost to the students under Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) .
The Board has been entrusted with the task of publishing the prescribed text books for school going children.
Addressing a press conference in this connection at the office of MSF here this evening, vice president of the student body Ng Milan informed that taking into consideration the non-availability of school text books even though the academic session has already started, MSF conducted a drive in the book shops of Paona Bazar and Singjamei area today.
During the course of the drive, the prescribed text books of Board of Secondary Education, Manipur were found selling without the hologram of the Board in various book shops including Oriental Book Depot, Manipur Students' Emporium, Sangam Book Store, etc in Paona Bazar; Sushita Book Depot, Farm Book Store, Leo Book Agency, Mangal Book Store, Universal Book Store, etc, behind Pologround, as well as Sindam Book Store, Ching-Tam Book House, Triveni Book Store and Manipur Book Store in Singjamei market.
In addition to this, text books which are supposed to be made available free of cost to the students under SSA were also found selling after putting stickers over the logo of SSA in some of the book stores, Milan disclosed, adding that all these text books have been confiscated.
The confiscated text books were also displayed before media persons during the press conference.
What action would be taken up against these book stores, which were selling the text books in defiance of the laid down guidelines, has not yet been decided and it would be finalised with public knowledge after the Board and the printing firms concerned come out with a explanation over the issue, Milan added.
