Trial run of Solid Waste Management Plant conducted

The first trial run of the State's lone Solid Waste Management Plant located at Lamdeng in Imphal West was conducted successfully yesterday, and it would be ready for inauguration within a short period.
The Plant is being constructed by Hyderabad-based Ramky Enviro Engineers Limited with Planning and Development Authority (PDA) as the work agency.
The foundation stone of this Plant was laid in 2009 by the then Works Minister K Ranjit and PDA Chairman Dr Kh Loken.
The area of Lamdeng Solid Waste Management Plant is 58.38 acres.
Initially, the cost of the Plant was Rs.28.98 crore, but the cost has now been escalated to Rs.41.75 crore.
According to an official source, five truckloads of solid wastes were used during the first trial run of the Plant yesterday.
All machineries were found running smoothly during the trial run.
All solid wastes collected from Imphal area would be treated at this Plant.
As many as 100 truckloads of solid wastes can be deposited at a time.
The whole process of this solid waste management would take around a month.
The solid wastes would be processed to obtain bio-fertilizer, plastic and glass materials separately.
The bio-fertilizer so obtained would be sold to the farmers, while the plastic and glass materials would be sent to the factories for recycling.
Installation of all required machineries including setting up of a dedicated power line has been completed at this Solid Waste Management Plant.
The plant would be ready for inauguration by the end of this month, the source added.
