Imphal, May 23 2014 :
A right activist from Assam has pledged to highlight the modus operandi of the Manipur Human Rights Commission to the members of National Human Rights Commission.
Speaking to reporters today at Manipur Press Club, an Assam based rights activist and Director of Human Rights Action Council, Asom, Parasmani said that he led a four-member team of the Council to meet anti-AFSPA crusader Irom Sharmila Chanu here.
Their attempt to meet Irom Sharmila was thwarted as security personnel prevented them from meeting the hunger striker, he said.
More embarrassingly, the team found the lock of the Manipur Human Rights Commission office bolted when they went to apprise the matter to the Commission.
Expressing surprise on how the Manipur Human Rights Commission is functioning in a State where Irom Sharmila is on fast unto-death stir for over the last ten years, Parasmani said he personally would apprise the matter to the members of the National Human Rights Commission in New Delhi on May 29 .
He said he would also highlight the case of Sharmila besides the MHRC modus operandi.
