First phase of polio immunization launched across the State

Tbl/Tpl/Kpi/Bpr, January 28 2018: In connection withe the launching of National Immunization Day, different districts of the State launched the first phase of Intensified Pulse Polio Immunization (IPPI) today.

Deputy Commissioner, Thoubal district, L Nabakishwor formally introduced the first round of IPPI at Thoubal DC complex.

The immunisation programme was organised by Thoubal District Health Society under the directive of National Health Mission in which Chief Medical Officer, Thoubal Dr N Jayentakumar, District Family Welfare Officer, Thoubal Dr N Akendra and District Programme Manager, Thoubal Ch Basanta Singh attended.

Speaking to media persons, DC L Nabakishwor stated that the first round of IPPI aims to immunize 45,200 babies (0-5 years) while adding that the District Immunization Officer has already set up 475 pulse polio booth at different locations of the district to fulfil the vision.

Meanwhile, 95 supervisors, 11 district monitors and 391 ASHAs have been assigned for the immunisation.

The DC appealed all to extend maximum cooperation towards district administration to sustain polio eradication from the State.

He further stated that, mobile teams have been advised to set up transit camp at public places like markets, parking etc so that the immunisation campaign is implemented successfully.

The first round of pulse polio immunisation was also launched at Primary Health Centre, Moreh, Tengnoupal district in which Moreh PHC MO in-charge Dr Kh Shantikumar, AC to ADC Moreh KK Pao, 11 AR Moreh Dr TNK Ching administered the drops.

The immunisation campaign would focus to give polio drops to 4123 children between 0-5 years in which 101 ASHAs would visit 101 villages of Moreh block to ensure that all children get their polio drops.

As part of the anti-polio campaign across the country, Kangpokpi along with the other districts of the State launched the first round of Intensified Pulse Polio Immunization (IPPI) at District Immunization Office Complex, Kangpokpi DHQs.

The launching program of the first round of IPPI was organized by District Health Society-NHM, Kangpokpi District, under District Immunization Officer programme, with an objective to keep Kangpokpi a 'Polio-free' district.

The newly posted Deputy Commissioner, Kangpokpi, MJ Pradip Chandren immunised few eligible children in the presence of SDC (HQ) Kaigoulal Kipgen, Dr Simte, Sr Medical Officer, District Hospital Kangpokpi and Dr J Touthang, District Immunization Officer, Kangpokpi District.

The launching program was attended by local civil bodies leaders, children and their parents, apart from officials of Health Departments, ASHA coordinators, Anganwadi workers and other stakeholders.

Dr Simte, Dr J Touthang and Kaigoulal Kipgen, SDC (HQ) also administered polio drops to few eligible children to mark the launching of the IPPI programmes in the district.

For effective and smooth conduct of the campaign, various teams comprising of Health workers, ASHA workers were deployed across the district and mobile teams were also deployed at various strategic locations to set up transit camps.

Speaking to media persons, Dr J Touthang, DIO Kangpokpi said that the IPPI programme is crucial for the well-being of a child and the main objective of the programme is to educate the public about the importance of polio immunization which will prevent or sustain the prevention of the disease from the district and the State as well.

The District Immunization Officer also highlighted that the concerned team for immunisation targets to administer polio drops to over 14,233 eligible children throughout the district in 249 polio booths to be manned by 545 individuals, and 48 supervisors along with ASHAs and Anganwadi workers.

He further said that a total of 41,050 households are targeted to be covered in the programme.

Earlier, after the launching of the program, the DC interacted with the health workers including ASHAs.

Meanwhile, District Health Society Bishnupur and District Family Welfare Officer, Bishnupur joined hands to inaugurate the first phase of IPPI at Bishnupur district hospital conference hall.

Deputy Commissioner, Pawan Yadav, CMO Bishnupur Dr H Babychand, Medical Superintendent Bishnupur Dr T Samananda Singh, Bishnupur Municipal Council Chairperson L Maniyaima Singh attended the inaugural function as dignitaries.

Speaking on the occasion, District family Welfare Officer, Bishnupur Dr P Merajao Singh informed that no cases of polio have been reported since 1997 in Manipur while asserting that India was announced polio-free country in 2011 .

Although, border polio vaccination is taking place at Indo Bhutan, Indo Pakistan and Indo Myanmar according to WHO, he added.

The DC said, although the country has been recognised as polio-free, the probability of receiving polio cases is quite high as the neighbouring countries have not yet sustained the prevention of the disease.

It is necessary that the pulse polio immunisation is carried in vast manner covering all eligible children, he added.

The programme targets to immunize 23,150 children of 250 villagers of Bishnupur district.

Manpower from one District hospital, two CHC, three RFWC, seven PHC, 33 PHSC and other organisations will join hands to make the immunisation successful.
