Imphal, January 28 2018:
Women wing of People's Action Committee against the cruel killing of Pravish Chanam at Greater Noida, UP, and Meira Paibi Lups of Uripok, organised a sit in protest at Uripok Achom Leikai today, condemning the attempt of the State Government to arrest the leader of the PAC instead of taking a Cabinet decision to hand over the investigation of the case to the CBI.
Speaking to media persons at the spot, O Bimola, convenor of the PAC's women wing, condemned the failure of the State Government to provide any positive lead in connection with the mysterious death of Chanam Pravish even though four months have passed since the incident.
She alleged that judging by the failure of the UP Government as well as the State Government to hand over the case to the CBI, despite repeated demands and protests by numerous associations, it would not be wrong to assume that the two Governments are trying to protect those responsible for the death of Chanam Pravish.
She further expressed suspicion that the authorities concerned are hesitant to hand over the case to the CBI because those involved in the case are related to imminent personalities/ high ranking people.
On the other hand, Social and Youth Progressive Organisation, Ningol Club Heirok and Youth Forum for Protection of Human Rights organised a rally at Heirok area today.
The participants of the rally appealed to the authorities concerned to give proper emphasis to the case of Pravish Chanam and to hand over the investigation of the case to the CBI at the earliest.
