Imphal, January 28 2018:
The Government of Manipur has been earning over Rs 1.5 crore in a year from exporting power to Myanmar's Tamu.
After the Government of Myanmar requested for power supply to Tamu district of Sagaing State to the Ministry of Power through the Ministry of External Affairs, Manipur started exporting power to the neighbouring country since April 2016.As per an agreement signed between the countries, Manipur should supply up to 3 MW to Tamu.
However, as of now, TamuDistrict Committee has been importing only 500 to 700 KW from Manipur, informed a source.
Myanmar has been paying the cost of importing power to the Ministry of Power which is again transferred to MSPDCL.
On the other hand, another source informed that the Government of India is keen to resolve all border disputes with Myanmar at the earliest.
With Chief Secretary RR Rashmi in the chair, an official meeting was held on January 8 and the meeting discussed about erection of subsidiary pillars between pillar numbers 79 and 81.As decided at the meeting, a team led by the Tengnoupal DC carried out a survey and a report was submitted to the State Government.
Meanwhile, Kwatha Khunou villagers have expressed deep apprehension that erection of the subsidiary pillars may entail loss of Manipur's territory of considerable length and 100 m to 150 m in breadth.
