Kakching, July 23 2021:
A taxi service for people who undergo Covid-19 testing at DSA Kakching Covid Testing Centre and are found positive has been launched on Friday.
The taxi will transport these Covid-19 patients from the testing centre to Community Home Isolation Centre (CHIC) located within Kakching area free of cost.
The taxi service is being sponsored by COVID-19 Response Fund raised by Voice of Kakching (VOK) WhatsApp group, Volunteers of Disaster Response Forum (VDRF) Kakching, Kakching Trekkers and Team Helmet with the support of the people.
The vehicle for the free taxi service was handed over to DC Kakching D Gangmei and CMO Kakching Dr Thaodem Rajen by a team led by VOK WhatsApp group founder Surjit Kshetrimayum and later flagged off by DC and CMO in the presence of SDO Kakching Maringmei Pourallung Kabui, Covid Testing Centre Kakching in charge Dr Pukhrambam Robin and others.
According to Surjit, COVID-19 Response Fund launched free taxi service in Kakching Municipal Area earlier but stopped sometime back.
However, the free taxi service in Kakching area has been resumed as the number of positive cases in Kakching is increasing and two ambulances provided by the government for Kakching district are not enough to serve the purpose.
This will reduce transportation problems faced by the Covid-19 positive people, he said, adding that the taxi service was launched with approval of the district administration.
