MCPCR disposes only 71 of 372 complaints in five years

Manipur Commission for Protection of Child Rights (MCPCR) has been able to dispose only 71 cases out of 372 complaints received during 2016-17 and 2020-21 .
As directed by the ministry of women and child development, state commission for protection of child rights was established in all states and union territories except for Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh.
Based on report from National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR), the commission in Manipur received 372 complaints related with children in the last five years and the commission had resolved only 71 of them.
The report further said that the commission received seven complaints in 2016-17 and all have been disposed.
In 2017-18, the commission received four complaints and disposed six; received eight complaints and disposed 4 in 2018-19; received 352 complaints and disposed only five in 2019-20; and received one complaint and disposed 49 in 2020-21.As per Section 13 of the Commission for Protection of Child Rights Act, 2005, NCPCR has been mandated to inquire into cases of violation of child rights and recommend initiation of proceedings in such cases.
Regular follow-up is done for ensuring timely redressal of complaints.
The Commission also conducts inspection visits and research studies, based on complaints received.
Among the north-eastern states, number of cases disposed against number of cases received during the five year period is 101 out of 127 in Arunachal Pradesh; 107 out of 244 cases in Assam; 56 out of 290 in Meghalaya; 141 out of 201 in Mizoram; 31 out of 328 in Nagaland; 49 out of 128 in Sikkim; and 100 out of 760 in Tripura.
