National Florence Nightingale Awardee Binodini says 'I never expected the award'

Th Binodini, Staff Nurse, RIMS was conferred the prestigious award 'National Florence Nightingale Award for the year 2011' on May 12, 2011 at
Rashtrapati Bhavan, New Delhi.
She was handed the prestigious award by the President of India, Pratibha Devi Singh Patil.
Binodini was awarded the award for her skills in the operation theatre and her credit for expansion and efficient management of the minor operation theatre and the department of dermatology.
She was also appreciated for her voluntary services to the people especially during the ceasefire agitation in Manipur in June, 2001, supply of potable water during floods in 2010, carrying out awareness programmes in diabetic clinics, pulse polio immunization programmes, health education of patients with leprosy and HIV/AIDS.
Thongam Binodini is the 3rd daughter of nine siblings of her parents Thongam Dhana and Th Ongbi Bino of Kongba Uchekon, near Kongba Bazar, Imphal East.
She was born in 1969.She passed her PUC from Modern College Porompat and did her nursing course in the School of Nursing, Government of Manipur.
After finishing her nursing course, she started working as a nurse at Down Town Hospitals, Guwahati from 1995 to 1997.Later in 1999 she joined RIMS hospital as a staff nurse.
Binodini is currently residing at Kongba Kshetri Leikai, near Kongba Bazar, Imphal East with her husband Konsam Seken an employee of state Industry Department, her two sons and her mother-in-law.
The prestigious Nightingale award carries a cash prize of ' 50,000, a medal and a merit certificate.
In an exclusive meeting with Hueiyen Lanpao Binodini asserted that she has been sincerely working hard and serving the people at her best level for many years but I never expected to receive this award or any other award.
When she heard about her winning the award she was happy and content and thought that hard work always pays.
Receiving the award was really more than I had expected and the warm treatment given to me in New Delhi was outstanding, she added.
On asking if she was appreciated by the state government for her achievement she replied that no appreciation has come from the state government so far.
She also said that she will continue to work and serve the people wholeheartedly till her last breath.
I will work harder and will try to donate more money for leprosy patients, she asserted.
An ideal nurse like Binodini is a role model in today's society.
She needs to be encouraged and praised for bringing fame to our state.
