Imphal, June 28 2011:
A suspected PLA cadre was shot dead in a reported encounter with police commandos at Naoremthong Khullem Leikai in Imphal West district in the wee hours today.
A police source informed that the encounter took place at about 1.30 am today outside a house at Naoremthong Khullem Leikai.
The deceased has been identified as Laishram Lincoln alias Nicolson (40) of Singjamei Naorem Leikai but staying at Naoremthong Khullem Leikai.
He reportedly shifted from Naorem Leikai to Naoremthong Khullem Leikai about three years back and stayed just adjacent to his wife's parental home.
Some years back, Lincoln was arrested by security forces as a RPF/PLA cadre and imprisoned for some period.
One 9 mm pistol and two Chinese hand grenades were recovered from his possession, said the police source.
Fatal bullet marks were observed on his body.
A case has been registered at Lamphel police station in connection with the incident.
However, information culled from the spot said that police commandos surrounded the house of Lincoln in the wee hours today.
The commandos also knocked at the doors of surrounding houses and warned the neighbours not to come out.
Shortly after, uninterrupted rapid gun shots were heard for a few minutes.
Yet, none dared to venture out as the incident happened in the dead of the night.
The neighbouring people have no idea where Lincoln's body was found and who picked it up.
In the morning, they observed blood stains inside Lincoln's residential compound.
Lincoln's wife Santa Devi said that Lincoln was alone inside the house when police commandos surrounded it.
Lincoln is survived by his wife, one son and a daughter.
