Imphal, January 25, 2012:
All Manipur United Clubs' Organisation (AMUCO) has called upon the people to be attentive and wary of the political parties which would not keep their promises if they want to get benefit from the ensuing elections to the 10th Manipur Legislative Assembly.
In a statement, Secretary General of AMUCO NC Modhuchandra observed that AMUCO has no right of violating the voting rights of individuals as well as the rights of any candidates from contesting in the election but keeping with its commitment and efforts to protect the territorial integrity of Manipur, AMUCO would oppose any political parties or leaders who pose a challenge to the integrity of Manipur.
Reacting to the recent declaration of Nagaland CM Nephiu Rio that NPF would join hands with leaders of other political parties to assert the rights of the Nagas, Modhuchandra cautioned the candidates who may emerge winner in the candidate to understand the implication.
He pointed out that when the entry of Muivah was banned, it became a big issue in Manipur.
But Rio did not do anything about the recent ban on the entry of Muivah in Zunheboto, Nagaland and NPF remained quiet.
Nagas in Manipur also did not say anything.
So, the public should remain alert to the repeated attempts being made to break up Manipur.
At the time of casting their votes, Nagas in Manipur should also not be carried away by inflammatory speeches of some politicians and Rio should realize that the living condition of all the communities in Nagaland including that of Lotha is far worse than that of the Manipuri Nagas, Modhuchandra contended.
While noting that all the political parties in Manipur have come out with various promises including protection of territorial integrity of Manipur, removal of AFSPA, safeguarding human rights, etc, in their respective election manifestos, the Secretary General maintained that it is the conduct of the political forgetting their manifestos after the election that made the public lose their faith on them.
Public should act as watchdogs to ensure that political parties keep the promises made in the election manifestos and remain an attentive public to get the benefit of elections, Modhuchandra said, and expressed hope that the public would not forget issues like Supra-state body proposal, district re-organisation, introduction of Inner Line Permit system and removal of AFSPA amidst the din of election cacophonies.
